Meet Koach Kadems
Throughout my life I have worked many careers…many, many careers. From retail to business to education and journalism, I have had a go in just about any industry. However, coaching is more than these work experiences, it is a passion that has led to a career. In my relationships, I have always been the “advice” friend or the “perspective” friend. When anyone has an important decision to make, my knowledge is sought out. When advice is needed, my phone rings. Friends going through a difficult time? Let me talk you out of the spiral.
At age 37 I was diagnosed with something I had always suspected, Combined Presentation ADHD. My suspicion of the those dreaded 4 letters started in college when my roommate did a psych 101 exercise on me and her professor suggested I come in and talk to her. I however defiant did not and for the next 10 years little signs I tried to ignore popped up. My inability to regulate my emotions, no matter how hard I would try I just couldn’t be on time, and my personal favorite waiting until the very last minute to write a paper and turning in what would have been an A if I had just proofread it. When I started therapy again after my grandmother died and I just couldn’t get myself out of bed my therapist for months would hint that I might have some sort of neurodivergence. When my emotions went so out of control I hit rock bottom I finally listened to my therapist and got a referral for a psychiatrist. After my intake he looked at me and seriously asked how I had gotten through life to this point. I just shrugged my shoulders and said I really can’t answer that. Knowing what was finally “wrong,” I sought out help from a professional who specialized in ADHD and found a coach. My coach was able to help with learning the basics of dealing with my neurodivergence. He trained me to work with my brain instead of against it.
Until this interaction, I never knew coaching was a real thing. This inspired me to research how coaching works, including identifying the differences between the work I was doing in therapy and the work I was putting in with my coach. I identified how both practices added tools to my toolbox. The more I learned, the more I felt like this was something my soul could get behind. This work does not just fund my life, it enriches me by improving the lives of others. This drove me to take the plunge and earn my certification. Now I am happy to coach clients in need of help with ADHD, spirituality, business, accountability, and communication/boundary needs.
